The past year has seen biofuels and other alternative energy products such as DME and methanol gasoline gaining greater prominence globally, with interest and developments in Asia in particular picking up strongly.

What do these developments mean for the methanol and MTBE industries, with energy considerations now looking poised to become perhaps as strong a driver as traditional end-uses? With high-energy prices accelerating the growth of biodiesel and fuel ethanol, as well as the use of methanol in gasoline, will growth in demand for methanol as an energy source outstrip growth in demand from traditional end-uses?

  • What is the outlook for biodiesel in Asia? How significant will the impending surge in biodiesel capacity be and how significant a driver will this be for methanol demand growth in Asia and globally?
  • Fuel ethanol capacity is also growing, particularly in Thailand. What are the latest developments? Will Thailand become an exporter of fuel ethanol?
  • How will renewable fuel initiatives in Asia as well as in Europe and the Americas affect MTBE demand?
  • DME in China has been advancing at a more rapid pace, representing a significant future outlet for methanol. What are the latest developments?
  • Methanol gasoline production has also grown considerably in the recent 1-2 years. Will continued high methanol prices slow this growth?

These are just some of the topics we plan to address at the conference. In addition, we will also look at:

  • Methanol project updates – which projects are on track, and which have been delayed or shelved?
  • Formaldehyde, MMA and acetic acid – what is the outlook for these traditional areas of growth?
  • Shipping and logistics – what challenges lie ahead?
  • Methanol and MTBE market overviews by region and globally
  • Competition faced by methanol projects for natural gas feedstock – LNG, MTO, oil feed injections
