This year’s edition recaps global market developments for 2005 as well as giving
an in-depth look at the historical events that have impacted the oxygenates market
since 1994. The 2005 Annual provides a comprehensive, in-depth look at the
reformulated gasoline program in the US and the requirements of the Clean Air
Act of 1990 that established MTBE as a main player in the clean air movement.
Included in this coverage is a historical study of gasoline production and demand
data since 1994, including production and consumption figures for oxygenates.
Detailed coverage is also provided on the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT)
that establishes the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) removing the Oxygenate
Mandate and establishing a renewable fuels mandate. Extensive coverage is given
to the impact of the RFS on US gasoline production, blending and distribution
under EPACT and the challenges that lie ahead for refiners and consumers.
The Annual also takes a look at the recent events that have developed on
a global basis that threaten to diminish the role of MTBE in the global
gasoline pool and the rise of ethanol and renewable fuel mandates around the world.

The volume is divided into major sections covering the principal gasoline
consumption areas of the world (US, Canada, Europe, Latin America,
Africa/Middle East and the Asia Pacific region). Analysis is provided on
refinery capacities and gasoline quality, consumption and trends on a global
basis for each region. Detailed plant lists and capacities are covered for
MTBE/ETBE and ethanol production facilities that include projections of plants
currently under construction or in the planning stages at the time the report
went to press. The report culminates with a world summary for MTBE that shows
historical production and consumption data from 1994 to the present and projects
supply/demand balances through 2012. The Annual also provides valuable background
information about the market environment that helps the reader better understand
market direction and new trends.
